CHICKASHA – The outlook is positive for Coach Brisco McPherson and the team he’s assembled for the 2011-12 season.

A strong core set of returners beefed up with what he describes as one of his better recruiting classes, McPherson is ready to see what the season has in store.

The Drovers have eight returners, including three major playmakers in Trell Porter, Phillip Harris and Graham Faulkner.

CHICKASHA – Basketball fans itching to see the start of the college season don’t have to wait long as the Drovers kick off basketball season on Tuesday night — as always with total Madness.

Drover Madness is USAO’s annual pep rally that serves as an unofficial start for the basketball season. This year, the fun-filled event will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in USAO Fieldhouse.

CHICKASHA – Back again for another year, the Drover Dancers are gearing up for what’s going to be an exciting season.

“We have a lot of talented, spirited girls this year,” Coach Emily Hector said.

Much like last season, the Drover Dancers plan to perform during halftimes and on the sidelines. This year, the Dancers also will have dances corresponding with some of the basketball game themes.

CHICKASHA – The USAO basketball program came from humble beginnings as players donned another team’s uniforms in their first ever game, as Athletic Director and Head Coach Brisco McPherson remembers.

McPherson was a member of the first basketball team at USAO in 1973 and has been associated with the program ever since.

With the new school year beginning, seven new students will be joining the Drover ranks of the USAO men’s basketball team.

Assistant coach Vinson Metcalf said he thinks the crop of recruits immediately will contribute positively to the team.

CHICKASHA – Adding to a forming 2011-12 squad, the Drover men’s basketball team recently signed Mustang High School all-star Ben Berry.

Community youth have two basketball camp options again this year, hosted by USAO's very own coaches.
