The Drover soccer men are No. 1 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, according to results released today, after a win of 4-2 over Saint Gregory’s on Friday.

Alvar Rodriguez opened the game with the first goal off an assist by Gavin Otieno at the 14:10-minute marker.

The Drovers allowed two goals before striking again. Three minutes after Otieno’s goal, SGU’s Antony Moore scored to push the score to 1-1. Then at the 28:10, Zachary Fernandez from SGU gave them their second — but last — goal of the game.

Once behind, the Drovers picked up the pace. David Otieno sailed the ball past SGU with an assist from Niall Crick to tie the game again at 34:41. Just two-and-a-half minuets later, Luke Hackett scored off an assist from Jake Cottage.

The game went back and forth in a defensive battle until about 69 minutes into the game when Rodriguez netted the last goal of the game with assists from David Otieno and Crick.

The Drovers win propelled the team into the No. 1 position in the conference with an 11-1 record and an undefeated 4-0 in the conference. NAIA Top 25 rankings are made available each Tuesday. Coach Jimmy Hampton said he expects the team to rank in the top 15 in the country.

The team faces Rogers State at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Claremore. The Drovers will return home Saturday afternoon against John Brown.
