Drovers earn SAC title early

CHICKASHA – With two games left in the regular season, the Drover men earned their seventh regular season conference title.

It is the Drovers seventh conference title and their fifth Sooner Athletic Conference championship.

“It is a tough conference with quality programs everywhere,” head coach Jimmy Hampton said. “To be SAC champions is a tremendous honor and is a reflection of the hard work put in by our USAO athletes.”

After winning on the road at John Brown, the Drover men — at 8-0 at the time — clinched the regular season title, even though the Drovers still had two conference games left in the regular season.

The Drovers went on to win one of the last two games to end the regular season 9-1 in the SAC and 13-4 overall. They will host the first round of the SAC tournament on Nov. 4.

The Drovers achieved their goal early despite the loss of some key players to injury this season. Senior Dusan Rasovic sustained a hamstring injury and hasn’t suited up in weeks. Coaches said he should be well again to play in the post season.

Additionally, his brother, Luka Rasovic, torn his MCL during a mid-October game and will be out the remainder of the season. Together, the Rasovics were a driving force on the USAO offensive end.

“With the losses of Dusan and Luka, we were able to plug other players and stay within our system of play and still find success,” Hampton said. “The men did a quality job in clinching SAC Championship with two games remaining.”
