CHICKASHA – The Drovers scored six unanswered goals on Friday afternoon to top the Oklahoma City Stars 6-1 in USAO’s Senior Day at Drover Pitch.
The win extends the Drovers’ seven-game winning streak and puts the Drovers (11-4, 8-1) in a position to host the first round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.
It wasn’t looking good for USAO when OCU’s Trevor Harmon scored the first five minutes. It was, however, the Stars’ only shot on goal of the game.
USAO’s Niall Burley scored the equalizer off an assist by Liam Madden. It was Stephen Owusu who scored the game-winner off a double assist by Burley and Nicolas Alberto. The Drovers led 2-1 at halftime.
The Drovers knocked in another four goals in the second half of play. Two of those goals came from Alberto, both of which were assisted by Alex Rubio. Perry Sansford and Kyle Maxwell each scored unassisted goals to add to the total.
The Drovers will play at Northwood on Tuesday afternoon to finish off the regular season.
It was USAO’s last regular season home game, and it was Senior Day. USAO honored its four seniors, Nicolas Alberto, Perry Sansford, Phil Pryor and Scott Parkinson. There was also a special award given out to Coach Jimmy Hampton in celebration of his 200th career win earlier this season.
The SAC tournament schedule will be released next week. For post-season schedule and results, see USAO’s athletic site, usao.edu/sports.
