CHICKASHA – A late goal for the Drovers gave them the victory in a Tuesday afternoon conference game against Mid-America Christian.
Freshman Stephen Owusu knocked he ball in off an assist by Nicolas Alberto with just 15 minutes remaining in the game.
Up to that point, the Drovers had 10 shots on goal without finding the net. Overall, the Drovers outshot the Evangels 30-8.
During the game, the most recent NAIA Men’s Soccer poll was released, putting the Drovers third. It is the highest ranking the program has received.
The game marked the Drovers’ 10th shutout in a row. Goalkeeper Bryan Byars, who had three saves in the game, now has 20 shutouts in his time at USAO. He is just one game away from tying the previous career shutout record, currently held by Assistant Coach Alexis Vizarelis.
The Drovers are 10-0-2 and 4-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
It was the second ever USAO soccer Pink Out Cancer game, and the Drovers donned pink uniforms for the game. Drovers Against Cancer sponsored the game, selling concessions and recognizing cancer survivors at each halftime.
The Drovers travel to take on Oklahoma City at 7 p.m. Friday before returning home for Senior Day, which will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday against Oklahoma Baptist. It will be USAO’s final regular season home game.
