Men force overtime, stay unbeaten in SAC

CHICKASHA – A last-minute Drover goal forced a conference battle against Wayland Baptist into overtime for the Drover men, who came out victorious.

The USAO men, undefeated in the Sooner Athletic Conference and No. 24 in the country, fought early before giving up a goal 15 minutes into the game.

Determined to win the game, the Drover line held Wayland to only one other shot on goal the entire game. The second half was spent on the attack, and senior John Gardner finally headed a ball into the goal off a free kick by Niall Crick with less than eight minutes left in regulation.

The game went into overtime, where the teams continued their conference struggle. Thirty seconds into the second overtime, Jean Gnapi grabbed USAO’s winning goal to give the Drovers a 2-1 double-overtime victory.

USAO stays unbeaten in the conference with a 5-0 SAC record and a 9-3 overall record.

The Drovers will take on Lubbock Christian in their next home game scheduled for Saturday. Kick off at 3 p.m.

That game will be USAO soccer’s first ever Pink Game, where players and fans alike will wear pink for cancer awareness. USAO’s chapter of Colleges Against Cancer will be selling hot dogs, Frito chili pies and drinks beginning at noon on Saturday.
