CHICKASHA – After a combined 6-0 record last week from the Drover men’s and women’s teams, two Drovers were named Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 17.
Midfielder Calli Cooper had two game-winning goals and scored three-quarters of USAO’s goal last week. She was named SAC Offensive Player of the Week for the women.
Cooper had the only goal in the 1-0 win of Mid-America Christian and scored both of USAO’s goals in the 2-1 victory over Lubbock Christian. Additionally, she had four of the 11 shots on goal in the win over Wayland Baptist.
Cooper leads the team with 17 goals on the season and as taken over the university’s career goals record as a junior.
She is the first player from the women’s team to earn Player of the Week this season.
Cooper is an education junior from Norman. She is the daughter of Len and Traci Cooper.
Defender John Gardner headed the Drover back line that allowed just six shots on goal — and only one goal — in three home conference games last week. He was named SAC Defensive Player of the Week for the men.
In addition to his duties as a defender, Gardner was responsible for the tying goal in the match against Wayland Baptist, which the Drovers won in double overtime. It was Gardner’s first goal of the season.
Gardner is a business and physical education senior from Liverpool, England. He is the son of John and Joan Gardner.
