CHICKASHA – Senior shortstop Leslie Beaty blasted home runs in the fifth and the sixth innings to power the University of Science and Arts to an 11-6 win in game one of a Tuesday doubleheader sweep of Mid-America Christian at Bill Smith Ballpark. USAO rolled to a 14-0 win in game two.

The Drovers improved to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, but the record is skewed somewhat since the team has already faced No. 1 Lubbock Christian and No. 7 Oklahoma City in back-to-back series to start the conference schedule.

Beaty’s home runs helped USAO post five runs over the final two innings and rally from a 6-5 fifth-inning deficit. Ashlyn Kimberly started on the mound and gave up six runs (three earned) in 4 1/3 innings pitched with three strikeouts. Chance Godwin pitched 2 2/3 scoreless innings to pickup the win.

In game two, USAO pounded out 14 hits and scored 12 runs in the first two innings. Godwin and Felicia Gourley collected the combined shutout with two strikeouts and only one walk between the two.

USAO will travel to Wichita, Kan., for a weekend tournament hosted by Friends University before returning to conference play at Bill Smith Ballpark March 10 against St. Gregory’s.
