Freshman pitches perfect game

CHICKASHA – Freshman pitcher Neesha Sorrell pitched the first perfect game of her college career Thursday afternoon on the way to a 12-0 slaughter over the Bacone College Lady Warriors.

In the five-inning game, Sorrell faced just 15 batters, threw nine strikeouts and didn’t give up a single hit. In addition to a perfect game, she went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored a run.

USAO has no previously recorded perfect games in its history.

A few weeks ago, Sorrell was named Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after throwing a no-hitter against Dordt College.

While Sorrell did her job in the circle, the rest of the team pulled in 12 runs. Senior Laci Weger-Garrett hit an in-the-park home run in the bottom of the third, earning two RBI. She scored two runs in the game.

Liz Agpalo had a home run in the game as well. She went 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs, while Ally Richardson and Markie LaFerney each had two runs and a single RBI.

Also scoring in game one was Skyler Nichols, Brooke McLeod and Christina Wilson.

The Drovers had just about as much success in game two against the Warriors, also winning it 12-0 in five innings.

After a scoreless first inning, the Drovers scored 11 runs in the bottom of the second and added their 12th two innings later.

Catcher Karmen Knowles went 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI. Senior Ashley Sanders also scored two runs and batted two runners in.

Wilson and Sara Reeves also scored two runs a piece. Adding additional runs in the second game were Nichols, Agpalo, Ashley Mitchell and Sammy Fowler.

Agpalo pitched in the whole second game. She threw seven strikeouts and gave up just two hits.

The wins bring USAO to 25-19 overall. The Drovers are still 9-9 in conference play.

It was USAO softball’s first Pink Game for cancer awareness. Both players and fans were decked out in pink, and Colleges for Cancer was able to raise about $100 to go toward USAO’s Relay for Life team.

The Drovers head to Texas this weekend for a doubleheader against Lubbock Christian. They have just one more home game left in the season and will take on Saint Gregory’s on April 26 for Senior Day.
