Kimberly leads Drovers to win, USAO splits

CHICKASHA – The Drovers fought tough against conference opponent Northwestern Oklahoma State, taking the first game into extra innings and winning the second.

USAO struggled to get a hit in the first game until well into the sixth inning. The start off that inning, Amanda Cave was walked, and Jessica Horton went in as a pinch runner. Senior Rosy Campos hit a single as the Drover’s first hit of the day, bringing Horton in for her first run of the season.

Junior Whitney Bellamy hit her fifth home run of the season in the first game in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 2-2 and send it into extra innings.

While the Drovers held the Rangers off in the eighth, Northwestern Oklahoma State scored an additional two runs in the ninth. The Drovers lost 4-2.

Seniors Michelle Bauer and Chancie Godwin each threw three strikeouts against the Rangers. Senior Felicia Gourley pitched the final out of the seventh inning and both extra innings.

Ashlyn Kimberly pitched a complete second game and led the Drovers to a 6-2 win over the Rangers. She threw six strikeouts, including one to end the game. She gave up only two runs and four hits in her seven innings in the circle.

Junior third baseman Laci Weger led off for the Drovers and hit her second home run of the season in the Drovers’ very first at bat in the second game. Additionally, she scored a second run later in the game.

Campos continued her success from the first game, hitting three of her four times at bat. She scored two runs and hit three RBIs.

Cave and senior Bree MacIntyre also scored runs for USAO.

The Drovers are 16-34 overall and 7-27 in conference games. They finish the season in Shawnee against Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at 2 p.m.
