CHICKASHA – With a new coach and a small team, the Drovers were bound to deal with a few hiccups through the season, but it’s nothing they aren’t eagerly fighting through, said Brooke McLeod, a junior hitting pitcher.

“We have a small team. It’s basically about just coming together,” she said. “But we’re going to get there. We are a strong team; we play together well.”

With just two pitchers and second baseman Skyler Nichols out with an injury, players have had to shift positions, but that’s something McLeod said will be resolved quickly.

“We have the opportunity to do very, very well this year, even though we are small,” she said. “I think that once we overcome everything and just continue to play together we will be just fine.”

McLeod has had a particularly good season. As a hitting pitcher and filling in at second some, she leads the team in batting average and comes in with the lowest ERA on the team.

“I know what it’s like as a fielder, and I know what it’s like as a pitcher to struggle in ball games and to have to try and step up and try to lead the team,” she said. “That’s kind of the main thing for me.”
