In the Saddle — Coach Jenn White

CHICKASHA – Entering her third season, Coach Jenn White is excited to see what her group of players will do this time around.

“I expect to see a better team than I’ve seen since I’ve been here,” she said. “I expect to see more experience this year, more aggressive play. I’m just really excited about this team.”

Adding to the young core, White and assistant Ken Richardson brought in some junior college players and even an NCAA Division I talent.

“Last year, we were weaker in a lot of spots,” White said. “We were young. We really didn’t have a true catcher. The outfield was just kind of hodgepodge. But I think this coming year, we have everyone playing the position they've played, so I think we’ll be stronger this year.”

The Drovers are sitting tied for seventh in preseason conference polls, a spot White said she thinks is fair to start out.

“I’d rather start there to be honest, and then if everything works out the way it’s supposed to, I think we should be definitely in the top five,” she said.

Playing in a tough conference, the Drovers will face two preseason top 10 teams and three top 25 teams, including conference opener No. 7 Lubbock Christian.

“I’m excited about these girls,” she said. “I think they are going to rise to the occasion, and they all know who we want to beat in our conference.”
