CHICKASHA – Facing a tough top 15 team on Senior Day, the Drovers took the split against the No. 13 Saint Gregory’s Cavaliers on Tuesday afternoon at Bill Smith Ballpark.
Sophomore pitcher Neesha Sorrell threw eight strikeouts in the first game, but the Drovers were not able to grab a victory and fell 5-0. The Drovers turned around, however, to shutout the Cavs in game two.
On just the fourth Drover batter of the game, the USAO scored when Kayla Adams doubled to right center to bring home leadoff hitter Katie Jirak.
It was the only score of the game as the Drovers held on to the 1-0 victory. The Drovers did get into some seventh inning trouble with the bases loaded and two outs, but Sorrell came into the game to strikeout the final batter and secure the win.
Liz Agpalo pitched the first five innings of the game and threw five strikeouts, earning her eighth win of the season.
The Drovers are 27-17 overall and 11-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. They head to Oklahoma City to take on No. 3 Oklahoma City on Saturday before returning home for their final home doubleheader Tuesday against Oklahoma Baptist. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
It was Senior Day for the Drovers and in between games they honored their lone senior, Agpalo.
