CHICKASHA – The final buzzer of the regular season has sounded for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma women’s basketball team.
It was a tough night for the Drovers (5-18, 4-16), who have played in three other games since last Thursday. The No. 22 Wayland Baptist Flying Queens took the game with a final of 96-44.
The bright spot of the evening was senior Amber Chaney, who scored a career-high 20 points in her final regular season game as a Drover. She went 8-for-15 in the field. The performance beats her previous high which was 17 against Saint Gregory’s earlier this season.
It will be Sunday afternoon before the Drovers find out who they will face in the play-in round of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, but USAO has clinched the No. 9 seed.
Rashelle Carr, also a senior, was the second leading scorer with eight points. Additionally, she led the Drovers in the rebound category with five boards.
Senior Paige Pulliam had eight points and grabbed four assists and two blocks to lead the Drovers in those stat categories.
Pulliam now stands at 967 career points and is looking for 33 to join the 1,000-point club. She would be the third Drover women’s basketball player to be in that club.
USAO will update its athletic website, usao.edu/sports, once Sooner Athletic Conference tournament pairings and times have been released by the conference.
The SAC tournament will take place in Shawnee on the campus of Oklahoma Baptist University on March 5-8. The first game will most likely tip off at 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning at the Noble Complex.
