Chaps overtake the Drovers

CHICKASHA – Pushing the game back a day because of weather didn’t seem to help out the Drovers on Friday night as both teams fell to Lubbock Christian.

The Drover women continued their conference struggles as they fell to the Lady Chaps 74-60 on Friday.

USAO came back strong in the second half, scoring as many points as LCU did, but the team was not able to overcome its opponent.

Sophomore Vernisha Moss had one of her best games at USAO as she scored 20 points and pulled in 12 rebounds. Aita Gueye was right behind her with 18 points.

The Drover women fall to 6-16 overall and 2-13 in conference play.

The Drover men rallied and challenged the Chapparrals in the middle of the second half despite having fallen quickly behind and having gone into halftime down by five.

The Drovers took the lead with 10 minutes left in the game. They held their lead for a few minutes before surrendering once again to the Chaps, who are third in the conference standings.

Thomas Peters made 10 of his shots on the night, coming out with 24 points for the Drovers. Phillip Harris followed with 14 and Sahlih Butts was the Drovers’ highest rebounder.

The Drovers were defeated 82-70. They fall to 8-13 overall and 4-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.

Both teams have a quick turnaround as they play their next home game Saturday afternoon against Wayland Baptist. It will be Western Day at the USAO Fieldhouse. Tip off is at 1 and 3 p.m.
