CHICKASHA – The Drover women came out on fire on Saturday afternoon determined to grab an important Sooner Athletic Conference win against Saint Gregory’s.
The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (2-4, 1-2) earned its first conference victory, dominating the Cavaliers (1-8, 0-3) with a final score of 81-55.
The game appeared to be the Drovers’ from tip off. Shooting 50 percent in the first half, the Drovers led 41-24 after the 20 minutes. In that half, the Cavs send USAO to the charity stripe 17 times.
For the game, USAO shot nearly 53 percent, holding SGU to 42 percent shooting. The Drovers also out-rebounded the Cavs 34-29.
Four Drovers scored in double figures with sophomore Sami Martin notching a season-high 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Senior Amber Chaney went 7-for-10 shooting, scoring a career-high 16 points for the Drovers.
Brittany Elkins and Paige Pulliam each scored 13 on Saturday afternoon. Elkins led the team in rebounding with six and Pulliam led the team in assists with five.
The Drovers will return to action at home against Northwood University on Thursday night. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game’s sponsor is Arvest Bank.
