CHICKASHA – The ninth-seeded Drovers are scheduled to take on the eighth-seeded Southwestern Christian Eagles in the play in game of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

"Southwestern Christian is a good match up for us," Head Coach Jennifer Hayden said. "We are similar in many areas, so it will be a good game."

The tournament, which runs March 5-8 at Oklahoma Baptist, is single-elimination style, culminating with the championship at 4 p.m. Saturday.

If the Drovers win on Wednesday, they go on to play top-seeded Oklahoma City at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

The teams were seeded first through 11th based on regular season performance in conference games. The top five teams earn a bye, while the other teams battle in “play in” games on Wednesday.

The winner of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament receives an automatic bid to the 2014 NAIA Women’s Basketball National Championship tournament.

The Matchup

Facing Southwestern Christian for a third time this season, the Drovers are hopeful to pull out the victory, having dropped to the Eagles in the previous games.

In both games, the Drovers shot more than 40 percent from the field but couldn’t overcome the nearly 50 percent shooting by the Eagles.

On the road at SCU, the Drovers fell by seven, despite having three players in double figures in scoring. Rashelle Carr, Paige Pulliam and Brittany Elkins led the team in the category.

A few weeks later, the two teams faced again, this time after USAO’s short bench was beginning to wear on the team. The Eagles won by a 16-point margin. The same three Drovers again scored more than 10 points.

Watching the Game

Fans are encouraged to make the drive to OBU’s campus in Shawnee, which is about an hour and a half highway drive from Chickasha. Tickets at the door are $10 for general admissions or $5 for students with a valid ID.

USAO Student Services teamed up with Communications and Marketing to host an annual Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Watch Party, which is free and open to all students, faculty, staff and community members.

This year’s party will take place in the Drovers Den in the basement of the Student Center and will begin at the beginning of the women’s game, 2 p.m. Wednesday, and extend through the end of the men’s game, which immediately follows.

Fans also are welcome to view the game themselves via Game Central by Stretch Internet courtesy of host school, Oklahoma Baptist. The cost is $10 per game or $50 for the all-tournament pass. Watch the game!
