No. 6 Stars too much for Lady Drovers

The Lady Drovers struggled against conference-rivals No. 6 Oklahoma City on Thursday night but managed to shoot 81 percent from the line and grab 31 rebounds.

USAO women were defeated 86-48.

Both Krista Beaty and Charitie Lewis had 12 points and four rebounds. Beaty hit two of her five from beyond the arc.

Aita Gueye had 10 points, four rebounds and three assists Thursday night.

The Drovers fought for shots but struggled to make them against the high-powered Stars.

USAO men gave No. 17 Oklahoma City a run for its money Thursday night, coming within five points of tying the game at the last buzzer.

Despite Fred Savoie’s 20 points, the Drovers lost 68-63. Savoie also had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Thomas Peters had 17 points, but Anthony Turner, who shot 50 percent from the field, had a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Mike Randle had six assists.

The Drovers used strong defense against the Stars, earning seven steals and four blocks. Between defense and tough fighting for possession and shots, they kept the game close, going into halftime down by only three. Oklahoma City never had more than a seven-point lead.

Unfortunately, the Drovers weren’t hitting their 3-pointers as well as usual, sinking only five of 20 attempts.

USAO heads to Oklahoma City to play Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon, and then again Monday night to take on the Stars another time. The Drovers will play their last home game against Oklahoma Baptist on Feb. 27.
