CHICKASHA – After four years of running up and down the basketball court, senior Tabby Bailey has turned her efforts to running longer distances. Bailey joined the USAO cross country team, which is in its first year.
“I ran cross country in high school and I really liked it then so I felt like this was another opportunity for me to shine,” she said.
Bailey, who ran a 22:19 five-kilometer race earlier this month, said she expects the whole team to continue to improve as a result of tough speed work and endurances exercises in practice.
“It’s looking OK for our first season, and by the end of the season, I think we’ll be doing way better,” Bailey said of the season’s start. “I believe we are going to get better each meet … by the fifth or sixth meet, we’ll be ranking more.”
She has set a goal to shave more than two minutes off her 5K time and hopes to rank at a meet this season.
“Personal goals, I’d like to get in the top 10 of one of the meets,” she said. “As a team goal, I hope we all can rank.”
