Double overtime battle sends Drovers to SAC Semifinals

CHICKASHA – Continuing their strong season, the Drover women move on to the SAC Semifinals for the first time in school history after a hard-earned win 1-0 over Mid-America Christian on Saturday afternoon.

The Drovers will move on to play at 7 p.m. at Southern Nazarene on Tuesday. SNU advanced over John Brown in penalty kicks.

The winner of Monday’s match will go on to play the winner of a game between Rogers State and Oklahoma City for the SAC Tournament Title and a bid to the National Tournament.

Earlier this season, the Drover women defeated Mid-America Christian 1-0 in regulation. It took the Drovers an extra 15 minutes to grab the victory on Saturday with postseason life on the line.

The teams battled much of the game in the mid-field, but USAO outshot its opponent 13-8 in regulation. Without a goal in 90 minutes of play, the SAC Quarterfinal game went into overtime.

The first overtime proved to be reminiscent of regulation as the Drovers got off just two shots and the Evangels shot once. But five minutes into the second overtime, junior Calli Cooper was able to slide one by MACU keeper Melissa Dobie on a free kick into the wind.

Dobie had 10 saves in the game, while USAO keeper sophomore Addie Tipton had two. Tipton earned her 13th win of the season.
