Drover Soccer Team Win Two At Home

Both the USAO men’s and women’s soccer teams posted wins Saturday against the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake. USAO’s Calli Cooper was named this week’s Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the week.

Cooper's Two Goals Lift Drover Women Past the Saints

At the Drover Soccer Pitch on Saturday, the women's soccer team at USAO fell behind 0-2 at half after outshooting the Saints 9-4. But the Drovers rallied in the second half.

Taylor Fain of Edmond sparked the Drovers with the first goal of the second half -- making the score 1-2. Still trailing in most of the second, Calli Cooper of Norman led the charge for the comeback. She converted two goals on six shots and added an assist to her total. The turning point of the game was the free kick by Cooper that tied the game up 2-2 at the 73:38 minute mark.

Cooper scored the winning goal at the 83:47 minute with an assist from Brittany Jay of Tulsa. Destiny Wilson of Yukon had three saves in the goal.

The Drover women move to 4-1 on the season, winning four in a row after losing the season opener. USAO's next home game is Sept. 18 against Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. at the Drover Soccer Pitch.

Otieno's Late Goal Leads Drovers Past Saints

The Drover men found themselves in a battle against the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday at the Drover Pitch.

Luke Pontin of Lutterworth, England scored the Drover’s first goal, with an assist from David Otieno of Nairobi, Kenya. Otieno scored the second goal for USAO assisted by Nial Crick of Leith, Scotland. The score was tied 2-2 at the half. The Drovers out shot the Saints 8-4 in the first half.

In the second half, the Drovers stepped it up on the defensive end -- not allowing a single shot by the Saints. The Drovers out shot the Saints 17-4 in the game.

The game-winning goal for the Drovers came at the 81:57 minute when Frank Gibson of Glasgow, Scotland hooked up with Otieno for his second goal of the game.

The Drovers home record is 2-0 with a 4-1 overall record. After taking on Bacone at home Sept. 15, they stay in Chickasha Sept. 18 against Texas Wesleyan at 3 p.m.
