CHICKASHA– The Drovers have been looking for win number one in the SAC for weeks and have received the win with a 5-2 victory at Saint Gregory’s.
Jade Ovendale, junior was the reason for the win as she was in the decision for all four first half goals. Ovendale was the scorer of three goals in the game and had an assist in the fourth goal to help the Drovers (2-8, 1-3) to the win.
The Drovers overall made an offensive push to take a 4-0 lead into halftime, the team had a 15-7 shot advantage in the first half and 26-10 overall.
Ovendale’s first goal of the day came off a cross play from Fran Monfron and hitting the ball into the lower bottom half of the net.
The second goal scored by Ovendale was a cross from teammate Megan Kettlewell who took in the pass to beat a defender right about the same spot as the first goal.
Ovendale’s last goal of the day came after a throw in where she took the ball and took it in for the score unassisted right past the left goalpost.
The fourth and final goal of the first half came from Rhiannon Brewster who scored her first on the season with an assist from Ovendale.
The Drovers defense would take over in the second half with only allowing three shots the whole half with two of those shots going into the goal, but the Drovers put the game away with a final and fifth goal of the game.
Linda Addo made the goal after beating two defenders and taking the shot from right inside of the penalty box to give the Drovers the insurance needed for the win.
The Drovers will try to make it two straight wins when they travel to Northwood University on Tuesday Oct. 15 at 1 p.m.
The next home game for the Drovers will be Saturday Oct. 19 against Texas Wesleyan the game will begin at 1 p.m.
