CHICKASHA – The Drovers had two big wins last week, and two players stood out not only on the team but in the conference as well.
Sophomore Annie Zoch was named Sooner Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the women and Freshman Scott Parkinson was named Defensive Player of the Week for the men.
“It’s a direct reflection on our successes as a team at USAO,” Coach Jimmy Hampton said. “I’m proud of each one of them and excited our teams success allows individuals to be recognized at USAO.”
Parkinson, from Liverpool, England, helped the Drover defense in the 7-2 win over Saint Gregory’s and a 2-1 double overtime win against Rogers State. Additionally, he scored a goal in each game.
Parkinson had his first career goal on a header against the SGU Cavaliers, and just days later against Rogers State, Parkinson scored the game-winning goal in the 108th minute of the game.
As for the women, Mannford native Zoch has played defender most of her career at USAO, but she recently took over at forward.
Zoch, who previously had only three goals in her career at USAO, scored four goals in the contest against Saint Gregory’s, helping lead the Drovers to a 10-0 shutout.
Both USAO teams went 2-0 this week. The Drover men are 12-2 (6-2) and the women are 8-5-1 (4-4). They head to John Brown to play their next games on Tuesday afternoon.
