CHICKASHA – Appearing to have begun to turn the season around, the Drover women grabbed a third straight win thanks to a strong second half on Friday evening.

CHICKASHA – The Drover women’s soccer team still has high hopes for the season, despite a less than stellar start to the season.

“It was kind of rough. We didn’t really get the results we wanted. It wasn’t really that we were playing bad, but we just didn’t find a way to win yet,” said Megan Wilkerson, a sophomore defender. “I think we’ve finally started to click as a team.”

CHICKASHA – The Drover women grabbed their first win of the season with a 4-1 rout over Lyon College on Saturday morning at Drover Pitch on USAO’s campus.

CHICKASHA – The Drover women fought a tough 90 minutes of ball and despite a last minute goal, fell to the No. 6 team in the country: Baker University.

“I actually thought the women played well,” Head Coach Jimmy Hampton said. “We just need to get a bit fitter and understand our roles and we will be fine.”

CHICKASHA – Two weeks before classes begin, USAO soccer players stepped foot on campus and have been focusing on fitness and tactical work in daily workouts to prepare for the big opening of the 2012 season.

CHICKASHA – After a first conference title and national tournament appearance in 2011, the Drover women start this season ranked nationally, coming in 24th in the NAIA 2012 Women’s Soccer Coaches’ Preseason Poll, which was released Tuesday.

USAO is one of two Sooner Athletic Conference teams to appear in the Top 25, with Oklahoma City in the No. 11 spot. The Drovers came in second to OCU in the SAC Preseason Poll.

CHICKASHA – The Drover women have proven to be conference contenders, sitting a second in the Sooner Athletic Conference preseason polls.

After winning the conference tournament last year for the first time, this is the highest the Drover women have appeared in the SAC preseason poll, which is voted on by conference coaches.
