Matt Watson is a senior economics major deeply immersed in student life on the USAO campus. He is currently involved in Student Government, USAO Ambassadors, Student Activities Board Dance Committee and the Phi Lambda Chi Fraternity.
As vice president of the fraternity, Matt has helped organize fundraisers that have raised over $1,000 in charity for the Arkansas Children's Hospital, in addition to volunteering for many community service events such as food drives, highway cleanup events, and community aid after the tornado damage of 2011.
As a USAO Ambassador, Matt works to recruit students for USAO and helps them transition from home life to campus life. His advice for students interested in getting involved in student life at USAO is simple:
“Do not hesitate to venture outside of your comfort zone when considering joining a club/organization on campus— in fact I would encourage it. Try something out even if it sounds even remotely interesting, and, if it doesn't work out, you can simply part ways with the organization, and be a little better off from the experience you've gained. All student organizations on campus are led by students that are just like you, who want to affect change in their community and make strong connections with other people during the process. I would highly recommend joining a student organization at USAO - there are few, more powerful opportunities on campus to grow as a student, a leader and an individual.”
