Women In Technology and Science (WITS) Workshop
On Saturday, Nov. 3, USAO Women In Science will host the 4th Women In Technology and Science (WITS) Workshop. This program is open to 5th and 6th grade girls. The WITS Workshop is an excellent opportunity for the girls to learn about careers in the fields of science and technology while participating in hands-on activities presented by female professionals from the area.
Each girl will participate in 7 different workshops. These workshops are wonderful building blocks for these young ladies at this very critical stage in their education when it is so important for them to know of the many options they have available. At this workshop students will explore many different fields and have the chance to talk with women in medicine, chemistry, agriculture, education and other fields. In addition, they will learn of the classes that they need to take to prepare themselves for high school, college and their chosen career in a science related field.
The cost of the WITS Workshop is $5.00. You may send it in with the registration form, or if registering online, bring it the morning of the workshop. This fee covers copy and material costs for the workshops, etc. She will be provided with a mid-morning snack (cookies, fruit, chips, juice); for lunch, however, she needs to bring a sack lunch, with her name on it, which we will put in a cooler, if needed. If your daughter has any special dietary needs or allergies please let us know what we need to do to plan for her participation. We do plan to have sugar-free drinks available. Pre-registration is not required, but we do encourage you to pre-register to better plan for the number of participants with regard to food and packets.
All workshop sessions are held on the USAO main campus, with registration in the lobby of Austin Hall. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. The opening session will begin at 8:30 a.m. We will wrap up the workshop around 3:15 that afternoon. The final assembly will be held in AH206, where you may pick up your daughter at the end of the day.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call Jeannette M Loutsch, PhD (405) 574-1325 or to email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We ask you to encourage your daughter to continue in this amazing tradition. As part of the planning for this event, and to let us assess how we’re doing, we have asked your daughter to fill out a short survey about science before she attends. The survey is on the back of the registration form, and on the online registration form below. Please encourage your daughter to respond. This will help us plan for future events. This will be the ultimate field trip!
