A Professor's Lament
by Emily Rand
My classes are merely 60 minutes long
I’ve spent the whole weekend tuning my lecture-song
Only to find my time being stolen and dashed
By an academic budget that’s constantly slashed
Twenty-five tests were perfectly printed
Except two which are missing, despite being prescripted
Budget limits prevent me from printing more
But I can’t budget my time when constant errors occur
I don’t ask for much. I don’t need your new tech.
I just want the pages requested without having to check

“A Professor’s Lament” was inspired by different conversations I had with professors about higher education budget cuts and technical issues. I wanted to take a humorous approach to something that’s incredibly frustrating.
