Diana Wight Hill Scholarship
The high regard of friends for Diana Lynn Wight Hill led to the establishment of a scholarship in memory of the USAO graduate. Dr. Nancy Warden, a member of the USAO faculty, was instrumental in this project. The scholarship is available to a junior or senior student needing financial assistance.
Hill was born in 1959 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She died as the result of an accident in 2001 in Frederick, Oklahoma. She graduated from high school in 1978 and continued her education at USAO and graduated in 1982 with a major in computer science. She married Jerry Hill in 1990.
She lived in Chickasha for 23 years and had worked for First Baptist Church for almost 17 years where she was financial secretary and music ministry secretary. She was hired as financial secretary when Mart Harden was pastor. She worked under five additional pastors: Dr. Larry Thompson, Dr. Dan Stammann, Dr. Kevin Clarkson, Randy Johnson and Johnny Tims.
“Somewhere along the way,” says Rev. Tims, “she took on the added responsibility of music secretary. She was responsible for the music library and the choir room as well as everything that came out of the office of the Minister of Music. She had been working with Jamie Killion, minister of music at First Baptist, for about 11 years.
“She was a very important part of the life of the staff and the administration at First Baptist. She gave a good account of herself in everything she was assigned to do. She held a place of love and respect in the ‘family’ of the staff and support staff. As is often the case, we did not realize how much she meant to us, both as an employee and as a person, until she was taken from us. She has been sorely missed. We’ll never forget her.”
In addition to her work, she served as leader of the Women’s Heart to Heart, sang in the choir, and was a member of the bell choir.
