Nobbs, Vestal Litton 2000
Vestal Litton Nobbs has gone from sleeping on her grandfather's couch while an OCW student to operating an international company with her husband of 41 years. She enrolled in OCW in 1936, the middle of the Depression, following in the footsteps of her aunt, Edith Litton, a 1931 home economics graduate. Her grandfather had sold a farm and bought a few acres of land in Chickasha near OCW so his daughter could attend the university. The 1940 graduate chose home economics as a major because of the wide field of requirements. "I thought that would help me make a choice of what I would eventually do." That versatility has benefited her throughout her business life and is still evident in her work today. After graduation she moved to California where her first job led to being a buyer and making trips to New York City. She then secured a job as a stylist and designer for a dress manufacturer. This led to the couple starting their own direct sales business that became international. Their company, Jeunique International, Inc., located in City of Industry, California, marked its 40th anniversary in 1999. Starting with food supplements and some herbal products, they added fashions, including coordinated sportswear with several pieces. The business evolved into many aspects including all natural cosmetics, purse and other accessories and jewelry, lingerie, and support garments.
