Cheat Sheet for using your USAO student email account
Tips and Tricks for using USAO Webmail (for USAO email account users)
How to access your USAO email account:
Full instructions for accessing your USAO email account are available at How To Access your USAO Student Email.
Where to check your USAO email account:
USAO email account users can check their email from any computer connected to the Internet by going to the USAO Webmail webpage. The web address is http://webmail.usao.edu OR you can click on the link for Webmail on the main USAO website (http://www.usao.edu).
Logging in to your USAO email account:
Do not type in your full USAO email address in the username box to login to your USAO email account. Just type the first part of your email address (before the “@” sign in your email address).
Your USAO email account password:
If you are a student, your initially pre-assigned password will always be the first initial (uppercase) of your first name followed by the first initial of your last name (also uppercase), followed by the last four digits of your student ID number.
How to change your USAO email account password:
If you would like to change your USAO email account password, you can do so at any time by logging in to your email account through Webmail and then clicking on Options > Global > Change Password.
The password change takes effect within 30 seconds.
If you have any pop-up blocker software installed on your computer or in your internet browser, please make sure to disable the pop-up blocker for the USAO Webmail website so that your browser doesn’t inadvertently block the “Compose” window (for composing new email messages) from opening.
Sending emails to other USAO email addresses:
When sending an email to any USAO email address (e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org), you can simply type just the first part of their email address (the part before the “@” sign) in the “To” field, instead of typing the entire email address. Please keep in mind that this feature does not work with a non-USAO email address such as Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail etc.
Search for other USAO email addresses:
You can use Webmail’s built-in search function to find the email address for ANYONE with a USAO email account (i.e. staff, faculty, students, and alumni). Simply login in to your email account and click on Addresses near the top of the webpage underneath your name. Then click on Search. Once you do that, another smaller window will open. Inside the Search window, there will be a drop-down arrow next to where it says “Search Personal Address Book”. Click on the drop-down arrow and select the option which says “Search Organization Directory”. After that, simply type in the last name or the first name of the person whose email address you are trying to find and it should show up along with anyone else with that name in our email address database.
Online email address directory for USAO staff and faculty:
To access the webpage for the email and phone directory of all USAO staff and faculty members, please visit the online directory.
