DORRELL, Alma L. (Robinson)
Funeral for Alma Laverne Dorrell, 64, Apache, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Leon Shade officiating.
Mrs. Dorrell passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at her home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under direction of Crews Funeral Home.
She was born July 28, 1945, in Mountain Park, to Jackie Lee and Betty Jo Denham Robinson.
Alma grew up in Mustang, and holds the Mustang High School record for the highest points scored in a girls basketball game. She was a member of the National Honors Society.
She married Terry Gregory Dorrell in a church service on Sept. 21, 1963. Because they forgot to obtain a marriage license, they had to marry again three days later on Sept. 24, 1963, in their living room. Ever since, she always expected two anniversary presents.
She attended college at University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, Chickasha, where she earned two bachelors degrees in English and special education.
She taught at Verden then Newcastle before taking time to raise her family. They moved to Gracemont in the spring of 1973.
She was very active in her community and First Baptist Church of Gracemont. She served as the churchs secretary and was the director of the Womens Missionary Union. She was a Vacation Bible School director, a Sunday school teacher and oversaw the GAs (Girls in Action) and the Acteens.
In 1988, they moved their family to Apache, where she enjoyed her role as No. 1 MeMa. She became a member of First Baptist Church of Apache. Alma had a very kind heart and was the type of person who never met a stranger and was always a friend to everyone she met.
When not doing things with her grandchildren, she enjoyed doing crafts, scrapbooking, floral arranging, crochet and reading. She loved to spoil her family with doing special things for holidays and special days.
She is survived by her husband, Terry, of the home; three sons and daughters-in- law: Robert and Susan Dorrell, Yukon; David Dorrell and Marty Reese, Apache; and Darren and Dana Dorrell, Gracemont; four daughters and a son-in-law: Amy Jo and Bill Horn, Midwest City; Vickie Dorrell and Jeff Penn, Walters; Melissa and Shawn Josey, Apache; and Rhonda Roberts, Apache; 20 grandchildren: Bobby Dorrell, Kelli Dorrell, Tiffany Dorrell, Sabrina Dorrell, Darren Dorrell Jr., Kathy Dorrell, Toni Dorrell, Isabel Dorrell, Samantha Horn, Benjamin Hutton, Zachary Hutton, Gregory Roberts, Terry Dale Bubba Dorrell, Katy Dorrell, Maisey Dorrell, Dalton Josey, Tanner Josey, Sarah Josey, Morgayne Roberts and Connor Roberts; two great-grandchildren: Paytan Dorrell and Kacie Dorrell; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Jack and Diane Robinson, and Donny and Janis Robinson, all of Piedmont; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Linda Robinson, and Shirley and Bill Swinford, all of Piedmont; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
