Gayle Marie Hammons, 72, of Indianola, died Dec. 19, 2012, at her home.


Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday at the Eufaula Church of Christ with Kipton Garrett and Everett Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Hunn Black and Merritt Funeral Home and Crematory.


She was born on June 15, 1940, in Colony to Leland Lilburn and Venna Novella (McLemore) Dunn. She attended and graduated as valedictorian of the Colony High School class of 1958. She graduated from Oklahoma Christian College in 1960. She also attended the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, where she was voted Most Outstanding Senior Student.


She married Kenneth Dale Hammons on June 12, 1964. She worked as a teacher in Henryetta for two years and Indianola for 31 years, before retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Indianola.


Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Hammons, of the home; son, Kevin Hammons and wife, Cyndi, of Warner; daughter, Gina Garrett and husband, Kipton, of Alma, Ark.; brother, Everett Dunn and wife, Electra, of Checotah; sister, Charlene Floyd, of Houston, Texas; sister in-law, Charlotte Dunn; and six grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leland and Nova Dunn; and brother, Wayne Dunn. Pallbearers will be Kevin Hammons, Kyle Hammons, Nathan Garrett, Zachary Garrett, James Floyd and Eric Dunn.
