Lovella Leahy of Gainesville, Fla., died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at her home after a long illness. She was 79.
Mrs. Leahy was born in Fort Cobb, Okla. She accompanied her husband to overseas military posts in Turkey, Korea and Portugal before moving to Gainesville in 1970.
She was a popular-music singer in her younger years, having majored in vocal music at Oklahoma College for Women, where she was inducted as a lifetime member into the music fraternity Sigma Alpha Iota.
In Gainesville, she worked as a beauty consultant and cosmetician at Eckerd Drug Stores and at the Belk department store in The Oaks Mall. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and was head of the Miriam Circle for several years.
Survivors include her husband, Thomas Leahy of Gainesville; a daughter, Suzanne Leahy of Gainesville; sons Thomas Leahy III of Richmond, Va., and Robert Leahy of Gainesville; a brother, Tom Schoolcraft of Hydro, Okla.; sisters Naomi Russ and Joyce Gleave, both of Mustang, Okla., and five grandchildren.
