Local businesses partner with USAO to provide student discounts

Drover Local program launched to benefit Chickasha businesses, students

Working with local business owners, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma launched a new student discount program last spring. Drover Local was developed in conjunction with the university’s student government association encouraging students to shop and eat local, supporting Chickasha-area businesses.

Drover Local is free to USAO students and local businesses. Participating locations receive a window decal to display promoting the program, are listed on the university’s website and are advertised through email and social media to students. Any USAO student with a valid student ID is eligible to receive the businesses’ discount simply by showing their ID at the time of purchase.

“Drover Local has already seen great success in the community since its launch in February,” said Cassandra Ersland, director of development. “By providing student discounts, local businesses are seeing a greater number of USAO students visit their locations; and students are discovering more of what Chickasha has to offer them.”

Drover Local currently has more than 15 participating businesses. Ersland encourages local business owners to participate saying, “The fall trimester just began and our students are looking for new places to explore. Now is a great time for businesses to join the program.”

Business owners in the city of Chickasha who are interested in learning more or want to become a Drover Local participant can email or call (405) 574-1393.
