MAHAFFAY, Betty J. (Ludrick)
Memorial service for Betty Jean Mahaffay, 89, Lawton, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Lawton, with Father John Borrego officiating. Burial will be at the columbarium at the Church under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. Betty Jean Mahaffay passed away Sunday evening, Feb. 12, 2012, with her precious daughter by her side. Betty was born Aug. 30, 1922, in Lawton, to Lola Coats and Julius Alva Ludrick. She graduated from Lawton High School and received her bachelors degree from the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha. Betty taught third grade at Jefferson Elementary School in Lawton for 25 years. On Oct. 23, 1946, she married Donald Demo Mahaffay and lived in the Lawton area her entire life.
She was a founding member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, where she served on the Altar Guild for decades. She loved reading, baking, cooking for her family and was an incredibly accomplished knitter. Each and every member of her family was blessed with numerous handmade gifts that they will forever cherish.
Survivors include her four children: Donald L. Mahaffay and wife, Melba, of Moore; Michael D. Mahaffay and wife, Phyllis, of Indiahoma; William R. Mahaffay and wife, Suzan, of Norman; and Mary J. (Jan) Henry and husband, Steven, of Beaumont, Texas; sisters: Coleen Thompson, of Lawton; and Billy Bowlby, of Norman; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
