Mayo receives Staff Achievement award

For her steadfast service in the campus library, Rhonda Mayo capped her 13th year at the University of Science and Arts this month with the Regents Staff Achievement Award. Mayo was named honoree for the final quarter of the 2011-12 year at a meeting of the USAO Staff Association.

Mayo, who works as a library reserve clerk in Nash Library, was praised by her colleagues at the university for her “initiative and attention to detail.”

According to her nomination, Mayo completed two large and complex projects for the library in the past year that went above and beyond her regular duties.

Mayo was instrumental in recovering and archiving more than 8,000 student placement files.

“Thanks to Rhonda,” said Nash Library Director Kelly Brown, “we have an excellent record of the women of OCW and some of the men and women of OCLA and USAO.”

Mayo was also responsible for reclassifying the library’s children’s collection using the Dewey Decimal system.

“Rhonda also took this project above and beyond by cleaning or replacing the clear jackets that we put over dust jackets,” Brown said.

“This project also took more than a year to complete. We now have a much more usable and inviting children’s collection and the books look great.”

She was presented the award at the Staff Association meeting in July by Monica Park, Lawson Court manager and Employee of the Year for 2010-11.

The Regents Staff Achievement Award is presented quarterly to one outstanding staff member. From these award winners, an Employee of the Year recipient is selected, who will be recognized at the USAO Board of Regents meeting in September.
