Meet the Candidates series to welcome Libertarian contenders

Continuing the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma’s Meet the Candidates series, three contenders for governor from the Libertarian party will be featured in an event March 29 at 7 p.m. in the USAO Ballroom.

Rex Lawhorn, Joseph Maldonado and Chris Powell will each present his platform and take questions from the audience in a forum that is free and open to the public.

Sponsored by the Nita R. Giles Public Policy Program, Meet the Candidates is bringing all of the contenders in Oklahoma’s 2018 gubernatorial election to the USAO campus for a short presentation of their politics and policies followed by a question and answer period.

“It’s important that people are able to hear from every candidate in this race, not just those from the two major parties,” said Dr. Kevin Crow, professor of history and series coordinator. “This series is an opportunity for our students and our community to participate directly in our democracy, and bringing in the contenders from every party is crucial in making this series as truly democratic as possible.”

The Nita R. Giles Public Policy Program is the only undergraduate program of its kind in Oklahoma and is specifically focused on producing graduates who have the skills and passion to help our state solve problems and ensure a sustainable future.
