The college yearbook called her “One of the best amateur photographers. She is a major in home economics, specializing in dietetics. Appropriately, Melba likes anything edible.”

Melba (White) Mayall graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women more than 70 years ago during World War II. The 1943 graduate is a resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado. After OCW, she completed a dietetic internship at Oklahoma A&M College.

“I felt my education at OCW prepared me for my careers and life in general,” Mayall said.

“I really never worked as a dietitian most of my married life as my husband was stationed at one place for only two years,” Mayall said. “One two-year period I served as the secretary for the director of Internal Revenue for the State of Texas. Not until we were stationed at Colorado Springs did I work as a dietitian. We never left Colorado Springs and I served there as the administrative dietitian at Penrose Hospital for several years.”

After graduating, Mayall moved a lot along with her husband Broun who was in the U.S. Army. Before joining the Army, he was a registrar at OCW. “My husband and I were stationed at one place only two years” Mayall said. “I was very supportive and helpful in my husband’s careers.”

Mayall raised three daughters. “Three beautiful and talented daughters who are having wonderful lives.” She and her husband had the chance to travel extensively.
