MAYFIELD, Thelma N. (Briggs)

Thelma N. Mayfield Thelma Naomi Mayfield, 97, of Johnson City, began her Life with the Lord, March 11, 2008, at the Christian Care Center of Johnson City. Mrs. Mayfield was a native of Weir City, Kansas, and had lived in Johnson City for the past 20 years. She was a daughter of the late Stephen Robert and Mabel Rose Underwood Briggs. Mrs. Mayfield was preceded in death by her husband, Guy W. Mayfield; a sister, Edith Irene Lane; and her son-in-law, Donald L. Holben.

WHATLEY, Thelma J. (Johnson)

Services for Thelma J. Whatley, 82, Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Athens, with the Rev. Joe Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home, Athens. Mrs. Whatley went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 5, 2010. She was born Sept. 6, 1927, in Boswell, Okla., to parents, Joseph William and Minnie Lee Woosley Johnson. She attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Okla. She married Alan D.

COBB, Teresa A. (Taylor)

Graveside service for Teresa Ann Cobb, age 61, of Chickasha will be Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Rev. Robert Dye will officiate. Teresa was born the daughter of Charles Edward Taylor and Hazel Imogene Tryon Taylor on February 28, 1947, in Chickasha. She died on July 24, 2008, in Chickasha. Teresa grew up in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School. After graduation, she attended and graduated from USAO. She worked for ASCOG for several years helping people with job placement.

ACTON, Shuckie J. (Overton)

Shuckie Jane Overton Acton Shuckie Jane Overton Acton, 59, of Valdosta, died June 11, 2007, at South Georgia Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in Cherokee, Okla., to the late Marion and Phoebe Overton. She was raised in Altus, Okla., where she graduated from Altus High School. Mrs. Acton received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts with a double major in deaf education and speech correction.

CASEY, Shirley (Rusk)

Casey, Shirley (Rusk) passed from this life on April 28, 2008, at St. John Hospital, Tulsa, at the age of 78 years. Shirley was born August 18, 1929, in Ralston, OK to Walt and Iva (Capps) Rusk. At the age of 4 months her family moved to Oklahoma City. Shirley attended Central High School in Oklahoma City and the Oklahoma College of Women. She was united in marriage to 2nd Lt. James M. Casey on November 10, 1951, in Fairview Baptist Church near Dadeville, MO. He survives her.

SUMMERS, Sherry S. (Williams)

Sherry Sue Williams Summers, 59, of Duncan, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, in her home in Duncan. Private family memorial service was held. She was born on Oct. 26, 1948, in Duncan, to George Elmer and Maxine B. Harris Williams. She married Allen D. Summers on Dec. 12, 1989, in Duncan. Sherry earned a bachelors degree from USAO in Chickasha. She worked as the office manager for her husbands trucking company. Sherry was also an artist.

FRANKLYN, Selma (Woody)

Selma Franklyn (Woody) was born December 13, 1938 in Oklahoma City to the late Willie Walter Woody and Willie Johnson. Selma was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Bernita Smith and Lillian Nichols. She accepted Christ at a young age and attended Fairview Baptist Church under the late Rev. S.S. Fairly, and present Pastor John A. Reed, Jr. She was faithful in her church work, where she played both the piano and organ, as well as sang in the choir. She attended Douglass High School graduating in 1956, where she excelled in academics and other activities.

WILCOXEN, Sarah F. (Goddard)

Sarah Frances Wilcoxen passed away March 14, 2009, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of James Madison and Sadie Ann Goddard of Caddo, Oklahoma. She was born August 4, 1923. Sarah graduated from Oklahoma College for Women in 1945 with a Bachelor of Music degree. She participated and placed in many piano recitals and competitions. After graduation, she traveled to New York City where she attended the Juilliard Summer Program. Upon completion of her studies Sarah moved to Muskogee where she taught music for a year. On June 6, 1947, she married Andrew Calloway Wilcoxen of Muskogee.

KELL, Sarah A. (Humphrey)

Funeral service for Sarah Ann Kell, 73, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Sharon Baptist Church.Sarah Ann Kell was born March 9, 1936 in Chickasha, Oklahoma the daughter of Holland Guidel and Mildred Lena (Taylor) Humphrey. She died February 11, 2010 in Oklahoma City. Sarah lived in the Chickasha area her entire life. She graduated from Friend High School in 1954 and attended Oklahoma College for Women. Sarah married Arthur L. Kell, Sr. September 1,1956 at Sharon Baptist Church. They owned and operated Kell Farms.
