EMBREE, Virginia L.

Virginia Lenora Embree, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2009, in the First Christian Church. Virginia Embree was born to William Ratleoff Embree and Cora Alice Shaffer Embree on November 7, 1914, in Hobart, Oklahoma. She died on January 5, 2009, in the arms of her loving family in Chickasha. She taught more than a generation of women, especially her nieces and students, to expect and receive more than the best from themselves. Virginia graduated from Oklahoma College for Women (now USAO) in Chickasha in 1938.

SWIFT, Virgil H. Jr.

Funeral for Virgil Hume Swift Jr., 62, Anadarko, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Mr. Swift died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009, in Oklahoma City. Burial will be in Wichita Tribal Cemetery, northeast of Anadarko, under direction of Steverson Funeral Home, Anadarko. He was born April 13, 1947, in Lawton, and graduated from Anadarko High School with the Class of 1965. He was a lifetime resident of Anadarko. He attended Cameron State Agricultural College for two semesters, participating in the ROTC program.

COYER, Violet (Puckett)

Violet Puckett Coyer of Wilburton, Oklahoma, died on Monday September 28, of natural causes. Born April 19, 1925 in Guion, Arkansas, the daughter of T.H. and Mary Leah Helm Puckett. Mrs. Coyer graduated from Rosedale High School and Oklahoma College for Women. She taught at the Jane Brooks School for the Deaf in Chickasha, Oklahoma and as a special education teacher for the deaf in the Mesa, Arizona public school system. Married to Roger L. Coyer, Sr., mother of Judith Kinney of Thomaston, ME; Roger L. Coyer, Jr.

GARY, Vinita (White)

Gary, Vinita W. Vinita W. Gary passed away gently from this life Friday, July 17, in Norman. Memorial services will be held at the Portland Avenue Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 23. In lieu of flowers she requested that donations be made to medical research. The daughter of John and Laura, she was born Vinita Marie White, June 22, 1921 in Bentley, Atoka, Oklahoma. Her father was killed in an on the job accident when she was a child. Her stepfather was Herman Case.

FINLEY, Victoria (Elkouri)

Finley, Victoria ""Vickie"" Victoria 'Vickie"" Finley passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Epworth Villa. She was 90. She was born Dec. 24, 1917, in Byron, OK, to David and Adel Elkouri. She graduated from high school in Snyder, OK, and then attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. Victoria went to work for the Internal Revenue Service in Washington D.C. during World War II. After the war, she returned to Oklahoma City and continued to work for the I.R.S. until her retirement. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed traveling.

ELLIOTT, Vertie B.

Elliott, Vertie Belle Vertie Belle Elliott was born to William C. and Lula Lattimore Elliott on November 12, 1921 in Minco, Oklahoma. She died peacefully at Integris Baptist Hospital on November 9, 2007. She is a graduate of Minco High School (1939) and Oklahoma College for Women at Chickasha, Oklahoma (1943). With a degree in commerce, she worked for U.S. Army's Borden General Hospital in Chickasha. She moved on to work for Universal CIT Credit Corporation in their accounting division in Oklahoma City. Then to Erwin-Wasey Advertising Agency and finally to a local accounting firm, C.C.

GLASS, Verna L. (Petty)

Funeral for Verna Lee Petty Glass, Richardson, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Whinery-Huddleston Chapel with the Rev. Philis Griffin, Centenary Methodist Church, officiating. She died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009 in Richardson. Entombment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. She was born June 16, 1921, in Cold Springs to Sam and Spicie Mae Strickland Petty. She was raised and attended school in the Faxon and Indiahoma areas. She graduated from Indiahoma High School, and attended Cameron State Agricultural College. She started her teaching career at Cooperton, Mountain Park and Snyder.

GROSECLOSE, Toma (Whitworth)

Groseclose, Toma Toma Groseclose, 92, passed away 10/26/2007 at her home. She was born 9/28/1915 in Wade, OK to Reverend J.O. and Wilma Whitworth. Toma graduated from Idabel High School and continued her education at the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. She was a music major and was accomplished in piano and vocals. Toma devoted her life to her family by being a homemaker. She enjoyed volunteer work, gardening, cooking, and sewing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Groseclose; son, Joseph C. Groseclose; and brother, Lavoy Whitworth.

EDWARD, Thomas E.

Mr. Thomas Edward ""Tommy"" Miss, 72, of Frederick, died Friday afternoon, April 6, 2007, at his residence. He was the husband of Mrs. Dolores Jean Harding Miss, his wife of 42 years. Born on May 15, 1934, in Frederick, he was a son of the late William Edward and Laura Gertrude Lininger Miss.

STOUT, Theresa A. (Beck)

Theresa A. (Beck) Farthing Stout was born to John Wesley and Iris Naomi Beck on July 25, 1915 in Bellevue, Texas. She died on January 3, 2009 at age 93 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Services will be 11:00 AM Thursday January 8, 2009 at Shawnee First Baptist Church, with Dr. Dan Williams and Dr. Paul Calmes officiating. Viewing will be Tuesday and Wednesday 8am-8pm at Walker Funeral Service. After living in numerous places in Texas and Oklahoma, she graduated from Wagoner High School in 1932. She then attended Oklahoma College for Women where she majored in Piano and graduated in 1936.
