Justin Kurt Williams, 22, of Lorenzo (formerly of Kress) died on Thursday, May 27, 2010, in San Angelo, Texas. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Plainview, with Pastor Rob Blum, of First United Methodist Church in Memphis, and Pastor Mitch Wilson of First Baptist Church of Shallowater officiating. Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Joan (Beard) Batie, 78, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2010, in Oklahoma City with her daughter Helen at her side. Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering in her honor from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 10, in the Regents Room at the Student Center on the USAO campus in Chickasha, Okla. Mrs. Batie was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Chickasha, Okla., to Marie Gaston Beard and Thomas Ernest Beard.
Helen Frances Siewert passed away June 20, 2010. She was born in Verden, Okla. on Oct. 8, 1921 to O.E. and Helen Nuernberger. She graduated from Chickasha High School in 1938 as class valedictorian and was Oklahoma State Girls Tennis Champion in 1939. The following year, she entered Oklahoma College for Women, graduating with honors in 1944. For eight years she worked in Tulsa, Okla. for IBM, training customers in the use of business machines. In 1951 she married C.L.
CHICKASHA-- Services for Dr. Elsie Null, 93, of Chickasha are scheduled Wednesday (May 6) at 1:30 p.m. at Ferguson Funeral Home. Dr. Null taught for more than 38 years at this institution, spanning all three legacies -- from the World War II days at the Oklahoma College for Women, through the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts period, and into the modern University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma era.
Elizabeth Jane Phelps, age 84, passed away June 3, 2010, in Prescott Valley, Ariz. She was born July 8, 1925, in Marshall, Ark. Soon after, her family moved to a small farm outside of Chickasha, Okla. Some of her fondest memories are of life on that farm with her nine brothers and sisters. After high school, Jane attended the Oklahoma College for Women (OCW) in Chickasha, Okla., where she earned her teaching degree with an emphasis on art. She married her childhood sweetheart, C.
Elizabeth Isabell (Betty) Lang, 93, died peacefully at her home in Sandy Springs, Ga., on Monday, June 7, 2010. Born in Frederick, Okla., to George M. and Ruby Pearson Brown, Mrs. Lang was a graduate of the Oklahoma College for Women and worked as a teacher in Perry, Okla., before moving to Kansas City, Mo. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Mrs. Lang was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Charles L. Lang; and by her brother, Wilbur Brown.
Celebration of life service for Dorothy Willou Mitchener Cooper, 89, Okmulgee, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church of Okmulgee with the Rev. Craig Denslow officiating. She died Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Private family burial will be held under direction of McClendon-Winters Funeral Home. Dorothy Willou Mitchener Cooper was born March 21, 1921, at Okmulgee Hospital, to Helen Grizzell Swain and Benton Belchet Mitchener.
Doris Kirk died June 19, 2010, at her home in Afton. She was born in Afton, Oklahoma, on January 21, 1922, to Wilton and Ethel (Williams) Cunningham. Doris graduated from Afton High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1939. She obtained her B.S. Degree from Oklahoma College for Women located in Chickasha. Graduate work was from O.S.U. in Stillwater and N.S.C. at Tahlequah. She was the first business teacher at Afton Public Schools and taught there for 34 years.
Funeral services for Darren Lee Powell, 46, of Chickasha will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 16, 2010, in the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Ross officiating. Darren Lee Powell was born August 23, 1963, in Guymon, Oklahoma the son of Dickey and Marie (Rosson) Powell. He died April 13, 2010, at his home in Chickasha. Darren came to Chickasha at age 5 years old. He grew up and attended Chickasha Public Schools, graduating from Chickasha High School in 1981.
Colleen Christian, 83 of Duncan, died on Saturday, July 10, 2010, in Duncan. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 14 at Don Grantham Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phil Ware officiating. Interment will follow at Duncan Cemetery. She was born Oct. 7, 1926 in Chickasha, the daughter of John Lewis and Thelma Dickerson. Colleen graduated from Chickasha High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women. She married James Dwain Christian on Feb. 21, 1945 in Chickasha.
