Virginia Frances Martin Purswell Virginia Frances Martin Purswell, 89, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2013. She died with the same courage and grace with which she lived, surrounded by family at her home. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Art Stansberry will be officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 1:00-3:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. Funeral arrangements are bei­­ng handled by Eternal Hills Funeral Home.


Frances was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 15, 1924, the daughter of the late William Walter Martin and Etta Scott Martin. During her infancy her family moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma, where Frances was raised. She attended the Oklahoma College for Women prior to marrying Henry Douglas (Doug) Purswell on April 16, 1944. They were married 63 years. Frances was a devoted wife and beloved mother of four, grandmother of seven, and great-grandmother of six.


In addition to the joy she took in making a home, she also worked as a seasonal employee of the Internal Revenue Service for 25 years. Her love of life, sharp mind, adventurous spirit, and gracious manner enriched all who knew and loved her. She was a lover of travel, a lover of friends, and a lover of new experiences. She particularly enjoyed her church community, being a dedicated member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church for over 60 years.


Frances is survived by her four children: Susan Woodruff, Beverly Purswell Wall and her husband Mac, Scott Purswell and his wife Cathy, and Jeff Purswell and his wife Julie her grandchildren Meredith and husband John, Billy and wife Andi, Emily and husband Eric, Melissa and husband Eric, Nathan, Samuel, and Benjamin her great grandchildren Cooper, Brady, Myles, Fiona, Naomi, and Verity her sister-in-law Judy Martin niece Kathleen and great nephew Kaden. Frances is preceded in death by her beloved husband Doug her brother Ray her son-in-law William "Woody" Woodruff and her daughter-in-law Marilyn Purswell.
