Quilt Raffle to Benefit Books for Tots
Students at USAO are working hard to get books in the hands of needy children -- one quilt square at a time. They are selling chances for a homemade, king size quilt to benefit Books for Tots.
The Student National Education Association and Kappa Delta Phi organizations are holding a raffle for the quilt. Tickets are $2 and are available from Dr. Jeanne Mather at 405-574-1291, email@example.com or in Gary Hall 206a on the USAO campus. Tickets also are available by contacting Stephanie Conner at 405-659-3452 or by contacting any member of SNEA or KDP.
The winner is scheduled to be drawn Nov. 9. All proceeds go to Books for Tots. The quilt is handmade by Stephanie Conner, a senior from Tuttle. Conner also made a quilt that was raffled in the spring to benefit Books for Tots.
In Dec. 2008, Books for Tots distributed more than 6,110 new books to Oklahoma children, as well as more than 1,200 used books to places like Children’s Hospital, pediatric wards and shelters.
“It is truly amazing how the USAO family, service organizations, businesses, public schools and the community came together to make last year a success," said Dr. Jeanne Mather, professor of education and sponsor for SNEA and KPD.
Christmas is just two months away and Mather says her organization is gearing up for this year’s big delivery and receiving donations of new books, gently used books and cash donations. Donations may be dropped off in the USAO Business Office on the second floor of Troutt Hall or in Gary Hall 206a.
