Artscope – Chickasha’s creative summer camp unlike any other – is quickly approaching. Artscope is a summer arts day camp for children ages 8-12 and is scheduled on the USAO campus June 13-24. A limited number of spaces and scholarships are still available. All spaces and scholarships will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Summer art scholarship funds are provided by the Oklahoma Arts Council. Students must be eligible to receive free or reduced lunches at school and agree to attend camp every day in order to receive scholarships. Other scholarships are also available through the Junior Social Workers of Chickasha for students who do not qualify for the school lunch program but who might have difficulty attending camp without assistance. The original scholarship deadline of April 30 has been extended until all scholarships have been given out.

Day campers will be able to study drawing, painting, sculpting, theatre, dance, and/or music as well as experience presentations from guest artists. Artscope instructors have extensive experience as both teaching and performing artists.

Theatre teachers are Julie Bohannon, Marcus Bilyeu and DeeDee Beard. Visual Arts teachers are Patricia Herrera and Olivia Lopez. Music is directed by Crystal Wyatt, and dance instructor is Emily Hector. In addition, students completing the 6th grade may take a class in video production/digital photography taught by Staci Souza. Artscope will be a great way to experience the arts from real artists and to learn how artists think and create while having fun.

Artscope is a non-profit program of the Chickasha Area Arts Council and the Children’s Arts Network. Artscope is in its seventh year in Chickasha.
