Students to Present Global Solutions During PEST Fair

Students to Present Global Solutions During PEST Fair

Students at the University of Science and Arts will present their solutions to many global problems during the first-ever PEST Fair of Innovative Ideas on Aug. 4 at 4:15 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Students are scheduled to present their solutions to globalization issues, local economic development plans and innovative improvements to the Oklahoma education system.

For USAO students, PEST doesn't necessarily mean a younger sibling who trails behind them wherever they go. Instead, it is the Political and Economic Systems and Theories class. The class is part of the 51-hour Interdisciplinary Studies program at the college.

According to the USAO catalog, the PEST class is an "examination of representative global political and economic theories and practices with emphasis on contemporary public policy alternatives for the United States. Includes a discussion of the relationship of geography to the development of political and economic systems and strategies."

The class is usually team-taught. Dr. Erik Guzik, assistant professor of economics, and Dr. Aleisha Karjala, assistant professor of political science, taught this summer’s session.
