USAO Alumna Patricia Morgan Awarded OVAC Grant

CHICKASHA – Chickasha artist Patricia Morgan recently was selected by the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition to receive a Professional Basics Grant. Morgan, an alumna from the University of Science and Arts, said she will use the grant funds to cover costs associated with the photo processing of her new body of work, which she will exhibit at the USAO Art Gallery Feb. 18-March 16, 2007.

Inspired by the land’s pattern, texture and color, Morgan said she plans to compose oil paintings, which sometimes combine locations or distort the horizon.

“The interactions of color and texture make the paintings come alive and capture a perception of place,” Morgan said.

In contrast, the process of her mixed media collages was begun during the illness of her father. Morgan used portions of earlier drawings and prints for collage components, arranging them in grid formations inspired by medical scans.

Morgan will host an open studio weekend Jan. 6-7 at her new studio space at 1120 S. 18th St. in Chickasha. The USAO Art Gallery opening is scheduled for Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. with a gallery lecture Feb. 27 at 3:30 p.m. An additional studio collage workshop is scheduled during the first week of March, 2007.

The OVAC grant is designed to assist artists in the final physical presentation and documentation of artwork for professional development. OVAC grants are available to Oklahoma artists at least 18 years of age who are not enrolled currently as a student in a degree-seeking program. OVAC programs are partially funded by the Oklahoma Arts Council.
