USAO alumni to meet for Homecoming Nov. 1-3

Alums from across the nation will meet for the 2013 Alumni Homecoming Nov. 1-3 at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The reunion is filled with special events for alumni of the Oklahoma College for Women, Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts and USAO.

Events for the weekend include an awards luncheon for the new USAO Alumni Hall of Fame inductee and the Young Alumni Award winner; an alumni/student concert; a memorial service; class photographs; supper with the students and many more activities.

The annual alumni reunion is open to all USAO/OCLA/OCW alumni. Registrations are being accepted at the USAO Alumni Development Office, (405) 574-1290. An all-inclusive registration package is available for $65 per person if registration is completed before Oct. 18 ($75 after Oct. 18), which includes all meals. Additional information is available online at Registration also is available online.

“This is a weekend for all alumni to come back to campus, to not only see classmates and friends, but to meet new people and our current students,” said Eric Feuerborn, director of alumni development at USAO. “Whatever your age, whenever you graduated, this reunion is for you and I encourage you to attend even if your classmates may not be attending.”

The weekend’s festivities kick off Friday evening with a Scholarship Reception at 5 p.m. before the annual Green & Gold Scholarship Dinner at 6 p.m.

The dinner will be followed by the traditional singing on the steps of Troutt Hall at 8:30 p.m.

Saturday’s events are launched at 10 a.m. with a coffee gathering. The annual Hall of Fame Luncheon begins at noon highlighting this year’s inductee – Dr. Lotsee Patterson. The luncheon also will honor Young Alumni Award winner Dylan Cavin.

In the afternoon, alumni have a list of activities from which they can choose. A special concert is scheduled for 4 p.m. in the Alumni Chapel with both alums and current students performing. Alumni can enjoy dinner in the cafeteria with the current student body beginning at 6 p.m., which will feature a student variety show for added entertainment.

“We are still adding events, so check the information on our website for a complete, up to date schedule,” Feuerborn said.

The Homecoming weekend comes to a close as alumni join together Sunday at 9 a.m. to honor past friends and classmates during a memorial service and dove release at the USAO Alumni Chapel.

While at Homecoming, alumni can participate in a silent auction to raise funds for Alumni Association Scholarships. “Alumni and friends don’t have to attend Homecoming to be a part of the auction. Many of the items are online and people can bid on the items they would like to purchase,” Feuerborn said.
