USAO Concert Band seeks community involvement


Rehearsals begin Jan. 9

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Concert Band invites members of the community who play a wind, brass, or percussion instrument to rehearse and perform with the ensemble. Anyone high school age and older is welcome to participate. Those interested are required to audition.

The USAO Concert Band provides university students and community members with opportunities to develop their musical potential and aesthetic sensitivity through performance while enriching the cultural life of the university and area community. It is the goal of the USAO Concert Band is to stimulate in each participant an appreciation and interest in art in general and a love for music in particular.

Rehearsals for the USAO Concert band will be Monday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. from Jan. 9 through April 10, 2017.

The concert band is under the direction of Dr. Kate Sekula, assistant professor of music and member of the USAO faculty since 2015. Sekula completed her Ph.D. in music theory and history at The University of Connecticut and is the current Coordinator of the Department of Music.
