USAO launches virtual book club

For the first time, USAO is introducing a virtual book club open to alumni, donors, faculty, and friends. The virtual book club offers stimulating intellectual discussion as well as the opportunity to share ideas and opinions with other members of the USAO community. This is the first online book club at USAO and it allows current and past alumni to be able to communicate on a state, national, and even global level.

“This is a fantastic continuing education opportunity. We want to offer our alumni a chance to engage in mind-expanding discussions, reminiscent of when we were students,” said Misti McClellan, Director of Alumni Relations, who is bringing the new virtual book club to USAO.

The first book in USAO’s virtual book club is “Killers of the Flower Moon” by David Gann. “It was a title recommended by one of our alumni during the 2017 Homecoming weekend,” said McClellan. The plan is for members to choose future titles that resonate with them, even selecting from President Feaver’s favorite books.

An email announcing the launch of the new virtual book club endeavor was sent out recently and participants will also be kept up-to-date through USAO’s social media and monthly newsletter.

Joining the book club is easy and accessible. The program does not require any type of membership fee. The only requirement is for the participants to purchase their own copy of the book. Both Amazon and Thrift Books are excellent sites for finding inexpensive books in decent condition. Anyone interested in this new online program can follow the link at the end of this article and simply sign up with their name, the major they had as an undergraduate, and their date of graduation. If interested, members may volunteer to be discussion leaders on the site. After signing up, participants will then receive periodic emails with updates from the other book club attendees.

The last day to sign up for the book club is Sunday, April 15th, so be sure to check out the site and sign up to engage with the curious minds of our alumni and friends from all over the world. The link to the virtual book club is:
