Monday, November 18, 2013

(Due to inclement weather, this concert has been rescheduled to Dec. 2, 2013.)

The USAO Showband will demonstrate the diversity in popular music during an upcoming concert scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 in Te Ata Memorial Auditorium.

The event is free and open to the public.

Joe Settlemires, the showband’s director, is excited to showcase the talents of the ensemble.

“We’ve got a lot of fantastic singers and instrumentalists in the group right now so we wanted to create a show that really highlighted those talents,” Settlemires says.

Highlights of the show will include material Dolly Parton, Chuck Berry, John Denver, The Beatles and Sam Cooke, among others.

Olen Cox has been a member of the showband for four years. He says that the experience has been one of the highlights of his time at USAO.

“The showband has been so much more than just another opportunity to perform,” Cox says. “Joe and Donna treat every member like family and that just motivates me to give 110% in rehearsal and performance.”
