CHICKASHA – A combined 37 runs came for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (25-20, 15-12) in its Senior Day to get the season sweep of Southwestern Christian (8-46, 3-24).
In game one, USAO grabbed a 22-1 win, while in the second game the Drovers notched the 16-2 victory to claim win No. 25 on the season.
In the first game, senior Warren Stehn went 2-for-4 and batted in five runs, three of them coming in the bottom of the sixth on a homer that went to straight left center and scored one of his two runs on the game.
Three other Drovers drove in three runs each, including senior Eddie Malone, who went 2-for-3 in game one and scored two runs.
Ryan Wescott, one of the other seniors honored on Saturday, went 4-for-5 in game one and drove in two runs while scoring four times in the game.
The winning pitcher for game one was Jose Flores (4-1) who went four innings and struck out one batter while giving up three hits and one earned run.
In the second game, the Drovers used an eight run first inning to take the lead and make it impossible for the Eagles to mount a comeback.
In the first inning, the Drovers went around the lineup once and got to the first three batters twice before getting the three outs to end the inning.
Leading the way on offense was Wescott, who ended the second game with a 3-for-5 line and drove in five runs on the game. Three of those runs came in a first inning homerun on his second at bat of the inning.
Malone went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate and drove in three runs while scoring three. He reached base all four times he came to the plate.
Senior Chris Fischer (5-5) was the winning pitcher for game two as he went four and third innings pitched and gave up one hit while striking out four batters on his way to the win.
This was the last home games at Bill Smith Ballpark for 2014, and the Drovers will travel to Arlington Baptist on Monday afternoon for the regular season finale set for a 3 p.m. start.
The Drovers honored five senior players including: Ryan Wescott, Eddie Malone, Chris Fischer, Cody Rieger and Warren Stehn. The team also honored its senior student assistant Seth Park for his four year of contributions to the Drovers.
Right now the Drovers sit in sixth place of the Sooner Athletic Conference standings and will be heading to the conference tournament. The seedings and tournament schedule should be released mid-week so please check USAO's athletic website for updates.
