CHICKASHA – Battling 50 mph wind gusts Friday afternoon, the Drovers fell 10-2 to Lubbock Christian in nine innings in the first contest of a three-game home series.

The Drovers gave up a first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second, but first baseman Garan Qualls answered in the bottom of the inning with a single-RBI homer.

USAO pulled into the lead in the fourth when designated hitter Brandon Jewett came home on a throwing error. Jewett had been walked to base.

Lubbock grabbed another two runs before the game was delayed a half-hour due to extremely high winds. Upon resuming, the Chaps scored seven more in the seventh.

Sophomore David Garcia started on the mound, pitching more than five innings and facing 26 batters.

The teams had planned to play a doubleheader on Friday, but the schedule was changed slightly Friday morning because of the weather. They will meet again for a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday, also at Bill Smith Ballpark.

A Sunday ballgame against Northwestern Oklahoma State was moved to 3 p.m. Monday at USAO.

The loss moves the Drovers to 22-18 overall and 9-14 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
